All humans possess the following eight intelligences. Fortunately, so do my rascals and I. We are all smart people.
- Verbal/Linguistic intelligence (a.k.a. word smart)
- Mathematical/Logical intelligence (a.k.a. logic smart)
- Visual/Spatial intelligence (a.k.a. picture smart)
- Bodily/Kinesthetic intelligence (a.k.a. body smart)
- Musical intelligence (a.k.a. music smart)
- Interpersonal intelligence (a.k.a. people smart)
- Intrapersonal intelligence (a.k.a. self smart)
- Naturalistic intelligence (a.k.a. nature smart)
A self smart person would enjoy starting a blog as a means to engage in self reflection - that's me! A teacher lacking in visual and musical intelligences would deprive her poor children of fine arts lessons - that's me too! It is now time to stretch both my children and myself in this area.
As I ponder upon Bruce Campbell's article about MI in the classroom, I long to make the best of this career with increased satisfaction in my children's enthusiasm for learning and independence. Assessing my performance based on their test results or my ability to force them to sit quietly and see me engage frontal teach would only demoralize me sooner or later.
