Reflections from QUE501 - EL Study

John's Masterpiece
TL happened to send me John's masterpiece (named "Dinosaur") yesterday. I was excited to re-assess John's drawing and observe his development from what I learnt from today's lecture by Prof Chew.
Prior to their pre-school years, children exhibit their ability to write through their drawing with letter-like characters.
From "Dinosaur", we know that little John is an intelligent 3-year-old. Why?
  1. The strokes in his drawing are well defined.
  2. He can already draw curves and further direct them in circular movements.
  3. He may had formed his imagary of "Dinosaur" through various animals.

The amazing Creator blessed human children with Language Acquisition Definition (L.A.D.). It is this natural LAD of children that allows them to constantly form hypothesis, a.k.a. patterns in their brains, through what they hear and see in their environment.

As such, the first five years are critical to language acquisition for a child. Providing him with a sound rich environment (with the presence of a loving caretaker, preferably his own Mummy, and an enriching learning environment) stimulates his language development.
