Ms Blur struck a conversation with boy R to help relieve his anxiety before heading out of the waiting room to take his PSLE oral exam yesterday.
Boy R asked a question that sounds something like this "since life is full of stress at every stage, why can't we enjoy our childhood? Why must we take the PSLE now?"
Ms Blur answered, "That's part of life. I guess we have to face whatever comes along. Remember, simply do your best and leave God the rest."
Boy R and my own cousin are part of the many whom I feel emotionally anxious and painful for this year. Majority of them are only 12-year-olds and they are driven by goal-oriented teachers (myself included)to overcome the first academic hurdle in their lives.
Come on! Give them their childhood back!
...... The meritocratic system is like that. As a dummy form teacher to my P.6 class, I can only try to discern their state of mind and care for their psychological well-being during this tough period of time.
